The January 11.2006 meeting of the board of directors was called to order at 7:50. With the following board
members in attendance Dan Hair, Barry Bowman, Mike Tomassone, Don Beatty, and Sue Malcolm. Also in attendance representing
North Dickinson were Brian Bierley, AJ Norton, Donna Morrow, and Robin Mueller. Representing Mooreland were Doug Pierce, George
Faller, and Ron Burkholder. Steve Harclerode from Crestview, Jim Shugart from Bellaire, and Linda Hair from the Middle school
were also in attendance.
The minutes from the December 14, 2005 meeting were read and accepted. The Bylaws were reviewed and accepted.
There were some Amendments suggested that will be available for review on the web site and they will be voted on at the next
meeting.
All star tryouts were discussed and it was suggested that we add a defense category and scrimmaging to the
evaluation form this was voted on and Dan Hair will revise the form for tryouts. Since there will probably be a lack of time
for the tryouts it was agreed the foul shooting would be done last and the number of shots taken could be reduced if need
be. Linda Hair had the best record for the middle school and agreed to coach the middle school team that will consist of 6th,
7th, and 8th graders. Brian Morrow had the best elementary record but he was not available and Donna
was unsure of his decision, if he does not want to coach Jim Shugart who is next in line declined, which brought us to George
Faller who accepted if Brian does not.
Our tournament will be held February 23 – 25, 2006 at Wilson, Swartz, and McGowan. We are looking for
sponsors again this year, which helps defray some of the cost. We would like to do a program again this year and all sponsors
will be listed in that.
There was brief discussion about the banquet, which will be held February 18, 2006 after the playoff tournament.
It was decided we would do a picnic style meal again this year. It was suggested we do two different lines at both side of
the cafeteria. Julie Henninger a senior on the girl’s high school team has agreed to be our speaker. There will be a
committee headed by Sue Malcolm to set up all the details for the banquet.
Dan Hair apologized to Jim Shugart and Brian Morrow for the email he sent out about the complaint he received
about their game. We discussed the appropriate behavior for all coaches. The half court play promotes a lot of noise, which
is part of the problem for coaches because the girls are unable to hear their coaches. Since we are going to full court play
we are hoping this will eliminate some of the problems
The double-teaming was discussed at great lengths. It was reiterated that the girls are to stay within three
feet of their girl and that just because a girl is in the paint you may not double team. A girl who is being beat in the paint
can have a team mate step in and help until that player can get back to her girl. Once the original girl is guarding the offensive
player then the second girl must return to her player, three seconds is permitted for the girl to return to her player. There
was still some confession and Dan Hair said he would check with Jay Bevlish (the high school coach) and get back to the coaches.
Update: Brian Morrow has decided not to coach the elementary all star team so George Faller will be the coach.
Dan Hair spoke to Jay Bevlish an instructed all coaches as to the double-teaming.
